·        Learn botany and plant identification, focusing on drought tolerant and California native plants

·        Create works of art from natural & recycled materials

·        Plant a “Seeds of Change” garden and explore the geographic, cultural, demographic and historical forces that have influenced the cultivation and preparation of food

·        Experiment with different composting methods and learn about vermicomposting [and learn how to start your own worm bin at home!]

  • learn and practice new vocabulary with song & movement
  • practice Spanish conversational skills through creative skits

Creative Music Circle

Kids ages 6 - 9 will develop musical abilities in a natural and fun fashion as they:

  • Gain confidence in using their primary instrument—the human voice
  • learn about geography and culture through multicultural song & dance games
  • create musical accompaniments to folk tales and poems

Kids will begin playing beautiful music together the very first day! No prior musical knowledge is required, but our approach will challenge & inspire even experienced musicians.

Small-group instruction (no more than 10 students in class) ensures your child gets plenty of individualized attention!

 Science and the Arts
Scientists, artists, and musicians share a very important trait: imagination. Exercise your innate scientist and artist in this unique class as you learn new ways to think about the world and develop creative problem-solving skills by applying your imagination and curiosity to scientific concepts and processes. Kids ages 6 - 12 will have a great time as they:

  • explore the science of chromatography

  • perform experiments in capillary action and testing surface tension, explosions, and bubble making

  • investigate kinetics, equlibrium, vibrations and waves

  • create musical instruments and visual art projects

  • develop creative problem-solving skills

  • collaborate with other scientists in a small-group environment.

Creative Art Circle

In this unique child-led visual art program, children pursue their individual interests in visual art while they create with a variety of mediums and techniques. No copy-cat art here! Each creation is totally unique and true to the child’s own self-expression.

Kids will exercise their creativity and develop artistic abilities as they:

  • Learn color theory, composition, perspective
  • Paint with watercolor, temperas, and acrylics
  • Learn and practice sketching and drawing techniques
  • Explore collage, decoupage, origami, and other paper arts
  • Enjoy nature sketching & creating art works from natural materials

We’ll keep your child’s confidence and enthusiasm high and frustration levels low while they create works of art which they are proud to share and develop artistic habits that will provide a lifetime of happiness.

Literary Musical Theater

Kids ages 6 - 12 can develop their interests in music and drama as we "play" with quality children's literature through this wonderful integration of literature, art, music, drama, and multicultural appreciation. Kids will thrive in a small-group, collaborative learning environment lead by an experienced teacher.

We'll take folk tales or other children's literature and compose our own scripts, songs, musical accompaniments, and more! Kids will create their own costumes and sets and will be in charge of the entire creative process. The eight-week session ends with a performance for a family audience.

Bookmakers Circle

Ages 7 and up

Kids will develop as writers and artists as they write and illustrate their own original poems and stories. Taught by Enicia Fisher, Editor of Children's Book Exchange and writer of frequent published reviews of children's literature.
